When it comes to beef jerky, you don’t have to go far to find a bunch of teriyaki offerings. Pretty much every brand has a teriyaki iteration, presumably because it’s a wildly popular flavor. We can’t complain, either, as it’s quite a tasty flavor profile for jerky. So, when we tried Three Jerks Jerky and realized that they didn’t have a teriyaki flavor yet, we were a bit surprised.
Thankfully, they’ve now joined the rest of the jerky world with an exciting new offering. For their newest flavor, they’ve teamed up with sauce superstars Soy Vey to use their Veri Veri Teriyaki sauce to flavor their uber tender filet jerky. And we have to say, this is definitely a match made in heaven.
First of all, the bag is simple and effective from a branding standpoint. It highlights the collaboration with Soy Vey and touts the health-conscious aspects of the product: gluten free, no artificial ingredients, no nitrates. Our biggest issue with the bag is that it has a somewhat narrow opening, so it’s a little more difficult to reach in and grab a piece. We also wish there was more than just 2 oz in there!
Once you open the bag though, you’re hit with a strong aroma of the garlic and ginger notes from the teriyaki. It’s a pleasant intro to the experience you’re about to have. It also looks very appetizing, as you can see the pieces of garlic and ginger on the beef, which tells you that it’s not some artificial flavor. It’s as real as it gets. People say we taste first with our eyes and also with our nose, and this jerky doesn’t disappoint on these two sensory fronts.
Then you get to take a bite, and it’s the most tender jerky you’ll ever taste. It’s made of filet mignon, so you’d expect it to be tender, and while some may turned off by the texture if they really enjoy the tough texture of classic beef jerky, we love it. Not only that, but it’s also one of the most authentic tasting teriyaki flavors we’ve ever tried on jerky. The garlic notes and the spice of the ginger come through perfectly and it’s just sweet enough so as not to overpower everything else.
Right now, you can only score this new flavor by contributing to the Three Jerks Kickstarter campaign, but we imagine they’ll meet their goal and it’ll be added to their full-time repertoire in no time. Until then, be sure to visit their page and offer up a donation. Trust us when we say it’s well worth it.
