Starting yesterday, Starbucks introduced Affogato-style Frappuccinos to their customers in North America. For those unfamiliar with the term, gelato affogato is a popular dish in Italy that consists of Italian ice cream “drowned in a shot of espresso.”
“We start with a shot of our smooth signature Espresso Roast known for its rich flavor and caramelly sweetness,” said Ryan Coombes from the Starbucks beverage development team. “When you pour the espresso over the Frappuccino, it creates a beautiful marbling finish.”
The company will feature three beverages blended in this new style. Vanilla Bean, Caramel and Mocha will be your choices to pick from, and you can view them all in the gallery above.
Though we haven’t had the chance to take a sip of an Affogato-style Frappuccino just yet, we fully intend to, as these Italian-inspired beverages sound seriously delicious. They’ll no doubt be a big hit as well as we push on into the summer months, giving Starbucks yet another refreshing and tasty drink to add to their already beloved menu.
