‘Tis the season for holiday treats. That usually means pumpkin spice this and peppermint that. But you can only drink so many pumpkin spiced lattes and eat so many candy canes, right? Maybe, then, it’s time to move on to another holiday favorite: gingerbread.
When someone says the word “gingerbread,” it’s usually followed by “man” or “men.” That’s because a holiday favorite is gingerbread cookies in the shape of happy little people. But really, it refers to a broad range of baked goods that usually involve spices such as cloves, nutmeg, cinnamon and (of course) ginger. Usually these treats are sweetened with molasses or honey and can range from soft moist cake, to cookies and even biscuits.
What if you want to get even more wild with this Christmas classic, though? Try making a Gingerbread Milkshake or Baked Alaska. Looking for more ideas? How about turning it into ice cream, cheesecake, or even pudding cups! You wouldn’t think so, but you can stretch this flavor profile a long way into all kinds of wonderful dishes. We’ve even included Gingerbread Protein Bites.
If you really want to follow the crowd and stick with pumpkin spiced treats this year, check out this list of recipes. But, if you want to switch things up, pick up some ginger, cloves, cinnamon, nutmeg and molasses and get baking!
