When we talk about truffles, there are two ways it can go. We can talk about the fancy, expensive, savory ingredient that normal, everyday home cooks probably don’t have much access to and wouldn’t know how to use even if they did have them. Or, we can talk about the sweet delights with a hard outer shell of chocolate and a soft, melty, gooey, decadent centre (also, oftentimes, chocolate). Since we’re now well into the holiday season, we’re going to focus on the latter.
As a confectionary treat, a truffle is a pretty loose definition. Generally, these sweet delights consist of some sort of chocolate ganache centere coated in a harder shell of chocolate and dusted with cocoa powder or sprinkled with nuts. Honestly though, you can go any way you want with this type of candy and we’ve compiled 30 amazing recipes in the gallery above to get you started!
Classic (read: predictable) choices of ingredients to liven up your truffles are fruits, as fruit and chocolate pair extremely well. Blueberry Lemon, White Chocolate Raspberry and Key Lime are just a few of the delicious combinations you’ll find here. Another great way to put an adult twist on this mouth watering candy is to get boozy with it. Red Wine, Eggnog, Kailua, Guinness, Baileys and even Bourbon can add a nice kick to the classic recipe. As you know, though, it wouldn’t be a We Got Food Covered list without some more unique variations as well, and as such we’ve included recipes like Matcha Green Tea Truffles and Elvis Muffin Truffles.
Try one or try them all – either way, these treats are sure to spice up your next holiday party and have your guests wondering why they only brought decorated sugar cookies. Trust us when we say you don’t want to be that person. Make some homemade truffles instead and sweeten up the holiday season!
