There’s no denying how tasty cows are to eat. Most people prefer steak, but even ground beef is great. When it comes to the former, though, there are quite a few options. You can go luxurious with filet, functional with sirloin, or big with porterhouse. If it’s variety you’re looking for, however, nothing compares to flank steak.
Flank steak is a relatively flat cut that comes from the abdominal muscles or buttocks of the cow. When you’re on the hunt for this versatile cut at your local supermarket, look for the brightest red you can find. That means it’s a well-exercised muscle and will give more flavor. Once you’ve cooked it, be sure to cut against the grain as to maximize tenderness.
Speaking of cooking, you can simply marinate it, grill it, slice it and eat it. That’s all fine and dandy, but we always encourage you to get a bit more creative in the kitchen. This cut is commonly used in Asian cuisine (referred to as “stir fry beef”) and widely used in Colombia, but you can marinate it any way you’d like. In the gallery above, we’ve offered up Cuban, Brazilian, Argentinian, and even Israeli flavors for your cooking pleasure. A few types of stuffed flank steak and even a boozy option or two guarantee that you’ll find something to enjoy with these 30 recipes.
